TOKYO, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Japan's weather agency on Thursday said the Kanto and Koshin regions, mainly areas inland, are expected to see snowfall on Friday morning due to a low-pressure system.

The low-pressure system formed over waters south of Japan will travel northeast, while rapidly developing through Friday, bringing snow mainly to inland areas of the Kanto and Koshin region on Friday morning, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

From dawn to before noon, there is a possibility of heavy snowfall in flatlands in southern parts of the region, the JMA said, adding if precipitation is heavier and temperatures are lower than expected, there is a possibility of warning-level heavy snowfall.

Snowfall in the 24 hours to 6 p.m. local time on Friday is expected to reach 8 cm in the mountains of northern Kanto, 7 cm from Hakone to the Tama and Chichibu regions, and 5 cm in the Koshin region and the northern and southern Kanto Plain.

Tokyo's 23 wards may also see 3 cm of snowfall, and some accumulation of snow.

Weather officials called for caution in anticipation of possible traffic disruptions and icy roads. Enditem
