BUENOS AIRES, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Newell's Old Boys moved into Argentina's Primera Division playoffs on Thursday with a 1-0 home victory over struggling Tigre.

Ignacio Ramirez gave his side the lead on the stroke of halftime by combining with Angelo Martino before sending a low finish past goalkeeper Matias Tagliamonte.

Newell's survived a tense finale to secure their fifth win in nine games and climb to fourth in the 14-team Group B standings, three points behind leaders Godoy Cruz.

Tigre, who secured their first win of the campaign against Central Cordoba last weekend, are last in the group with just five points so far.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Thursday, Defensa y Justicia drew 1-1 at Belgrano, Lanus lost 1-0 at home to Central Cordoba, and Talleres Cordoba clinched a 1-0 away victory over Deportivo Riestra. Enditem
