MEXICO CITY, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Gerardo Arteaga and German Berterame scored first-half goals as Monterrey stayed top of the Liga MX standings on Sunday with a 2-1 home victory over Mazatlan.
Arteaga opened the scoring in the 18th minute by lashing a left-footed drive into the far corner after combining with Sebastian Vegas.
Berterame doubled the lead as he bundled home from close range following a goal-line scramble as halftime approached.
The visitors reduced the deficit on the hour when his low shot from distance left goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez with no chance.
The result leaves Monterrey with 25 points from 11 outings, a point clear of second-placed America. Mazatlan are 15th in the 18-team standings, 16 points further back.
In Sunday's only other Liga MX fixture, Christian Rivera scored three goals - all from penalties - as Tijuana drew 3-3 at Pumas UNAM. Enditem
