KHARTOUM, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced Tuesday that it has taken control of the national radio and television headquarters in Omdurman city, northwest of the capital Khartoum.
"We have managed to retake the headquarters of the National Radio and Television Corporation from the Rapid Support Forces and mercenaries from other countries," the SAF said in a statement, calling it "a great victory dedicated to the generous and patient Sudanese people."
The headquarters of the National Radio and Television Corporation, situated in the Al-Mulazmeen neighborhood in Omdurman, has been controlled by the paramilitary RSF since the civil conflict broke out in mid-April last year.
Although the UN Security Council adopted on March 8 a resolution calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Sudan's warring parties during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the SAF on Tuesday vowed to destroy the paramilitary forces anywhere in Khartoum utterly.
The raging conflict has so far claimed more than 13,000 lives in Sudan, according to recent estimates by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Enditem
