HANOI, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Fleets of some Vietnamese airlines are likely to shrink in 2024 and 2025, consequently affecting their transport capacity on domestic and international routes, local media reported Wednesday, citing the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

The Authority said that in September 2023, engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney announced the recall of PW1100G engines, possibly affecting 600 to 700 engines of this type used by aircraft around the world, to conduct in-depth examinations and repairs.

The engine recall is expected to force some Airbus A321neos in Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air fleets to be grounded in 2024 and 2025 starting in January this year.

The Authority has asked the carriers to make aircraft supplementation plans, including renting aircraft and crew for peak periods and optimizing operations of the available planes.

It also recommended air passengers to select suitable means of transport, book tickets early, and buy tickets via official airline agencies to guarantee their rights.

The airlines have opted to increase their loads to meet the surging travel demand of the Lunar New Year and summer holidays, according to the report. Enditem
