HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Top Talent Pass Scheme has received enthusiastic responses with nearly 59,000 applications approved, Chris Sun, secretary for labor and welfare of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said on Wednesday.
In replying to a lawmaker in writing in the HKSAR Legislative Council, Sun said that till the end of February, the authorities had received over 72,000 applications in total under the Scheme. About 44,000 of the applicants approved have arrived in Hong Kong. (Hong Kong-Top Talent Scheme)

KUALA LUMPUR -- The static display and demonstration flight of the China-manufactured commercial aircraft ARJ21 and C919 were held on Wednesday at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Malaysia's Selangor state.
This was the last leg of ARJ21 and C919's five-country Southeast Asian demonstration flight tour after Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia. Visitors to the show included Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong, representatives from local investment promotion institutions and aviation sectors. TOKYO -- The inaugural rocket launch of Japanese company Space One failed on Wednesday as its small solid-fuel rocket Kairos exploded in midair and disintegrated moments after liftoff, in the first attempt by Japan's private sector to put a satellite in orbit.
Shortly after 11:00 a.m. local time, the rocket was launched as scheduled carrying a small satellite from Space Port Kii in Kushimoto, western Japanese prefecture of Wakayama. (Japan-Rocket Launch-Failure)

KATHMANDU -- Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday won a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, days after he forged a new five-party coalition government.
"Of 268 lawmakers who took part in the voting, 157 voted for the vote of confidence, which is a majority of the total existing lawmakers in the house," said Dev Raj Ghimire, speaker of the lower house. "Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has won the vote of confidence." (Nepal-PM-Trust)

TOKYO -- International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi emphasized continued efforts in monitoring Japan's ocean discharge of nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, local media reported on Wednesday.
