SEOUL, March 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of information and communication technology (ICT) products rose for the fourth straight month in February due to solid demand for locally-made semiconductors, government data showed Thursday.

ICT products shipment soared 29.1 percent over the year to 16.53 billion U.S. dollars in February, continuing to grow since November 2023, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Semiconductor export surged 62.9 percent to 9.96 billion dollars in February, keeping a double-digit growth for the fourth consecutive month.

Display panel shipment increased 18.7 percent to 1.55 billion dollars on robust demand for panels used for TVs and mobile phones, but mobile phone export dropped 21.3 percent to 810 million dollars.

Shipment for computers and peripherals gained 14.0 percent to 750 million dollars, but communications equipment export decreased 6.7 percent to 200 million dollars.

Import for ICT products shrank 6.7 percent from a year earlier to 10.29 billion dollars in February, sending trade surplus in the ICT industry to 6.24 billion dollars.

Import for chips and display panels went up last month, but import for mobile phones and computers dwindled in double digits. Enditem
