TOKYO -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 struck off Japan's northeastern prefecture of Fukushima on Friday (local time), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The tremors were felt in central Tokyo. No tsunami warnings have been issued by the JMA. (Japan-Earthquake)

JAKARTA -- Inactive Supreme Court Secretary Hasbi Hasan was sentenced to 13 years and eight months in prison, as well as a fine of 1 billion rupiah (about 64,000 U.S. dollars), for a bribery case of 11.2 billion rupiah (about 715,000 dollars), at the Corruption Crime Court in Jakarta on Thursday.

Prosecutor for the Corruption Eradication Commission Ariawan Agustiartono said that Hasan's acceptance of bribes to conduct the bankruptcy case to win the case at the Supreme Court's cassation level for Heryanto Tanaka, the debtor of the Intidana savings and credit cooperative (KSP), was proven. SUVA -- China is willing to deepen and promote practical cooperation in various fields with Fiji, and make efforts to advance key projects in the Pacific island nation, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian said at a press briefing here on Thursday.

DHAKA -- The Bangladeshi-flagged cargo ship which was hijacked Tuesday has anchored 20 miles off the Somalian port of Garacad, an official said here Thursday.

Md Shakawat Hossain, general secretary of Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers' Association, told reporters here, "We've come to know from a global shipping source that the ship as of 1:00 p.m. local time anchored at a place close to the Somalian port." (Bangladesh-Somali-Cargo Ship)

KABUL -- Sixty people died and 23 others were injured due to heavy snowfall, rains and freezing weather across Afghanistan over the past three weeks, spokesman for national disaster authority Mullah Janan Saeq has said.
