SANAA -- Yemen's armed Houthi forces said on Friday that they have launched fresh attacks targeting an Israeli ship and a U.S. warship in the Red Sea.

"We launched attacks against the Israel-linked ship, Pacific 01, with a number of missiles in the Red Sea, and launched drone attacks against a U.S. warship also in the waters," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a written statement broadcast by the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV. JAKARTA -- Three teenage students were killed after their wooden boat capsized off in an inundated paddy field in the Indonesian regency of Kudus in Central Java province on Friday, police said.

Central Java police spokesman Stefanus Satake Bayu said the three teenagers, aged 14, 15 and 16 years old, died from drowning during bad weather. No marks of violence was found in their bodies after medical observations conducted by police and medical workers, he added. (Indonesia-Flood)

NAIROBI -- Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger traffic increased 17.9 percent in 2023 to hit a new high of 2.73 million, the national statistics bureau said Friday.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) said traffic rose from 2.39 million passengers in 2022 as more citizens embraced the train, thanks to its reliability, convenience, and affordability. (Kenya-SGR Passenger-Increase)

JERUSALEM -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved Friday a plan of Israel Defense Forces for the operation in the southern Gazan city of Rafah and rejected Hamas demands about the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, said Netanyahu's office.
