PHNOM PENH, March 18 (Xinhua) -- AirAsia's Cambodian unit will launch daily domestic flight operations on May 2, as the low-cost airline aims to boost air travel in the Southeast Asian country, it said in a news release on Monday.

The airline will start with three domestic flight destinations: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, utilizing two A320 aircraft based at Phnom Penh International Airport, the news release said.

AirAsia Cambodia Chief Executive Officer Vissoth Nam said this will not only improve connectivity but also encourage travelers to stay longer in Cambodia.

"Our vision is to transform the way people travel in Cambodia and make air travel an integral part of the country's transportation network," he said.

He added that the fares are as low as 49 U.S. dollars in one way to amazing domestic destinations, so more local and international visitors can experience the wonder of Cambodia by air affordably.

He said he believes that the airline will contribute to fostering the local economy by providing jobs to locals and supporting tourism development. Enditem
