JUBA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people including two senior officials were killed Tuesday in a road ambush by suspected armed youth from Anyuak community in Jebel Boma County for Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) in South Sudan, an official confirmed Wednesday.

Abraham Kelang, minister of information for Greater Pibor Administrative Area, said among the dead include a commissioner of Jebel Boma County and the deputy commander of the South Sudan People's Defense Force (SSPDF) in GPAA.

"The ambush also left four people injured, we found out that the people who carried out the ambush are from Anyuak community and these are the same group who killed the commissioner last year with the director of national security," he told Xinhua over the phone.

Kelang said that relative calm has returned to Jebel Boma County after security was stepped up along the road.

In June 2023, armed youth shot dead the commissioner of Pochalla South County in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area and two of his bodyguards.

Greater Pibor Administrative Area and neighboring Jonglei State have been experiencing insecurity characterized in the form of retaliatory violence, involving cattle raiding, revenge killings and child abduction. Enditem
