YANGON, March 21 (Xinhua) -- A project on the conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants in the Mekong River Basin with the support of the LMC Special Fund 2023 is being implemented in Myanmar, the state-run media Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) reported on Wednesday.

This two-year project from October 2023 to September 2025 will be implemented in Tachileik, Mong Yawng and Keng Tung districts of Shan State, the report said.

During the period, the project will research and identify various types of medicinal plants in the project areas, document natural medicinal plants used by indigenous people, and preserve rare and endangered species, indigenous species and economically important species.

In addition, the establishment of a database system will be implemented in order to exchange the results of the research findings with the countries of the Mekong River Basin and the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The opening ceremony of the workshop on the conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants in the Mekong River Basin of Myanmar was held on Tuesday at the Forest Department Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw. Enditem
