ALGIERS, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed on Thursday when a taxi collided with a truck near the locality of Akbou, in the province of Bejaia, some 185 km east of the capital Algiers.

According to the Civil Protection Department, the fatalities were all passengers of the taxi, including seven men and one woman.

The National Gendarmerie has initiated an investigation to determine the accident's circumstances.

According to the Algerian National Center for Prevention and Road Safety, more than 90 percent of traffic accidents in Algeria are caused by human error, particularly driver negligence. Other causes of road accidents include the poor state of roads and cars and environmental factors. Enditem
