ISLAMABAD -- Two soldiers were killed and 15 others injured in a suicide attack in Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday, official sources confirmed.

The incident happened in Dera Ismail Khan district of the province when some unknown militants opened fire at a convoy of security forces, sources from the Counter Terrorism Department of the province told Xinhua. (Pakistan-Counter terrorism)

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Three people have been confirmed dead and 12 others injured as a suicide blast rocked Kandahar city, the provincial capital of south Afghanistan's Kandahar province, on Thursday, provincial police spokesman Mullah Asadullah Jamshid said.

TOKYO -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 struck Ibaraki Prefecture, Tokyo and nearby areas in Japan's east on Thursday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
