ACCRA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Beninese Olympian Odile Ahouanwanou grabbed the overall gold medal in the women's heptathlon competition at the ongoing 13th African Games in the Ghanaian capital of Accra late Thursday.

Ahouanwanou picked up the gold medal, gathering 5,616 points across the seven events, proving strong in the heptathlon javelin and the long jump events.

Ahouanwanou told Xinhua that she has a good time training before coming for the Games, which is reflected in her performance.

"I really fought for this, and I am glad my efforts are yielding results. I prepared very well in France before coming here, and despite the unfavorable weather conditions in Ghana, my preparation is paying off," she added.

Ahouanwanou's gold medal took Benin's total collection of gold to three. Enditem
