YAOUNDE, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The Constitutional Council of Chad on Sunday announced that 10 candidates will be running for the presidential election scheduled for May 6 in the Central African nation.
The council had received 20 applications for the top job in the country but 10 were rejected because they contained "irregularities," said Jean-Bernard Padare, president of the Constitutional Council, while announcing the list of candidates during a solemn ceremony in N'Djamena, the Chadian capital.
Chad's transitional President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno and his Prime Minister Succes Masra are on the list of candidates to contest the presidential race.
The presidential campaign will run from April 14 to May 4.
The first round of the presidential election is scheduled for May 6, with a possible second round on June 22. Enditem
