TOKYO, March 25 (Xinhua) -- A 25-year-old Japanese jockey has passed away after falling from the horse during a race held in the country's southwestern prefecture of Kochi over the weekend, the racecourse said on Monday.
Yudai Tsukamoto, 25, riding horse number 4, Cosmo Sea Wolf, suffered a fatal fall during a horse race at Kochi Racecourse on Sunday, according to an obituary notice published by the racecourse.
The incident occurred during the third turn of the 10th race, when the horse stumbled unexpectedly, causing the jockey to lose his balance and fall from the saddle, unrelated to the movement of other horses. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kochi City by ambulance for treatment but was later confirmed dead, read the notice.
Tsukamoto, who hailed from Shizuoka Prefecture and made his debut in April 2016, had amassed 318 victories in regional horse racing throughout his career, according to local media reports. Enditem
