ANKARA -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday mentioned the recent economic challenges of the country and vowed to place Türkiye among the 10 biggest economies of the World in the upcoming years.

BERLIN -- The Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt on Monday started to construct its 4.5 billion-euro (4.9 billion U.S. dollars) plant of electric vehicle (EV) batteries in Germany's northern state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The plant is due to start operation in 2026. With a designed maximum annual production capacity of 60 gigawatt hours (GWh), it will supply battery cells for up to 1 million EVs a year. (Germany-Battery Factory)

CANBERRA -- The Australian government has watered down its proposed vehicle emission standards amid pressure from car manufacturers.

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's cabinet has approved a proposal to invite qualified domestic and foreign investors to promote the registration of ships under its flag, the government's information department said on Tuesday.

The department said in a statement that ship registration is a major source of foreign exchange to the country's economy and the move would generate many direct and indirect employment, saying that the minister of ports, shipping and aviation submitted the cabinet paper in this regard.
