LJUBLJANA, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Foreign ministers of five Central European countries met in Slovenia on Tuesday and welcomed the United Nations (UN) Security Council's resolution on Gaza adopted on Monday.

"We hope that due to this resolution the supply of help to civilians will strengthen and that it will lead to lasting peace in Gaza," Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon told a joint news conference, after having the meeting with her Austrian, Czech, Hungarian and Slovakian counterparts.

The UN resolution demands an immediate cease-fire in Gaza for the holy month of Ramadan.

Slovenia, which is a non-permanent member of the Security Council, was among the countries that prepared the resolution, which won 14 votes in favor among the 15 members of the council.

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that the resolution is "a sign of life of the United Nations," but added that "concrete steps can only be achieved on the ground."

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that all civilians must be protected as much as possible. Enditem
