JERUSALEM -- Israel confirmed Tuesday that Marwan Issa, the deputy military leader of Hamas, was killed in its airstrike on a tunnel in the Gaza Strip earlier in March.

"Tonight I can confirm that, according to our intelligence, Marwan Issa was killed in an attack we carried out about two weeks ago," Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a briefing. (Israel-Hamas Military Official-Killing)

TEHRAN -- Iran on Tuesday called for effective enforcement of a United Nations resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and a permanent cessation of Israeli attacks on both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

ANKARA -- Turkish police on Tuesday detained 147 people suspected of being members of the Islamic State (IS) group in nationwide operations, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

BEIRUT -- Two Hezbollah fighters were killed and three civilians were injured Tuesday in Israeli air strikes on Hezbollah sites near Lebanon's northeastern town of Zboud and eastern Baalbek-Hermel Governorate's Ouadi Fara, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.
