BEIRUT -- Nine people were killed and seven others injured on Wednesday in Israeli airstrikes targeting several towns and villages in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

Military sources, who spoke anonymously, said that one of the raids targeted a house in Lebanon's southwest village of Tayr Harfa, killing two Hezbollah fighters and three members of the Islamic Health Authority and injuring three civilians. (Lebanon-Israel-Confrontation)

DAKAR -- Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the candidate of the opposition coalition "Diomaye President," has won Senegal's presidential election, according to results released Wednesday by the country's National Vote Counting Commission.

Faye secured a total of 2,434,751 votes, constituting 54.28 percent of the total votes cast, said Amady Diouf, the commission's president, during a press conference held in Dakar, the country's capital. The voter turnout rate was 61.30 percent. (Senegal-Presidential Election-Winner)

UNITED NATIONS -- UN humanitarians said on Wednesday they are concerned about the spread of cholera in nearly half of the 72 Somalia districts amid a severe shortage in oral vaccine doses.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said almost 4,400 cases and 54 deaths were recorded last week since the start of the year. More than 60 percent of the deaths were among children under 5. (UN-Somalia-Cholera)

JAKARTA -- Ibu volcano on Halmahera Island, east of Indonesia, erupted on Wednesday evening, throwing ash 2,000 meters above its peak, according to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation.
