India's core industries production rise by 6.7 pct

NEW DELHI, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The combined production of India's eight core industries, namely cement, coal, crude oil, electricity, fertilizers, natural gas, refinery products and steel, increased by 6.7 percent in February year on year, data revealed on Thursday.

The eight core industries comprise 40.27 percent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production.

While production of cement increased by 10.2 percent, coal production increased by 11.6 percent. Crude oil production increased by 7.9 percent; electricity generation increased by 6.3 percent; and fertilizer production declined by 9.5 percent.

Natural Gas production increased by 11.3 percent, Petroleum Refinery production rose by 2.6 percent, and Steel production increased by 8.4 percent.

The cumulative growth rate of Index of Eight Core Industries during the first 10 months of current financial year -- April 2023 to February 2024 -- was 7.7 percent year on year, said the data released by the federal ministry of commerce and industry. Enditem
