ADDIS ABABA -- At least seven people were killed in a traffic accident in southern Ethiopia, local officials said Thursday.

The accident occurred in the West Arsi zone of the Oromia region Wednesday night when a truck traveling on the road lost control and plunged into a gorge, leaving seven people dead, state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate quoted local officials as saying. (Ethiopia-Road Accident-Casualty)

RIGA -- Latvian Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins of the ruling New Unity party announced his resignation on Thursday after meeting with Prime Minister Evika Silina.

JAKARTA -- The death toll from a landslide caused by widespread torrential rain last Sunday in the Indonesian province of West Java has risen to seven with three still missing, an official said on Thursday.
