BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi military said Thursday that the security forces killed a senior member of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group in an operation near the Iraqi-Syrian border.
Acting on intelligence reports, the security forces carried out an operation in a desert area in western Iraq that resulted in the killing of Samir Khedr Sheehan al-Namrawi, who was responsible for transporting fighters, weapons, equipment, and explosives between Iraq and Syria, according to a statement issued by the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command. RAMALLAH -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday approved the new government headed by Prime Minister-designate Mohammad Mustafa, the official news agency WAFA reported.

ADEN, Yemen -- Intense clashes broke out between pro-government forces and Houthi fighters in Yemen's southern province of Al-Dhalea, leaving at least ten people dead and 15 others injured, a military official told Xinhua on Thursday.
