ISLAMABAD, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The weekly inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) in Pakistan witnessed an increase of 29.41 percent on a year-on-year basis, an official report said on Friday.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said that the SPI was calculated to measure the price movement of important commodities and it comprised 51 essential items collected from 50 markets in 17 cities across the country.

The PBS data revealed that the prices of gas, chili powder, onions, garlic, brown sugar, chicken, salt powder, sugar and pulse rose during the week ending on March 28, 2024, compared to the corresponding period last year.

On the other hand, prices of cooking oil, bananas, vegetable oil, mustard oil, diesel, wheat flour and cigarettes decreased during the same period.

The statistics revealed that the SPI dropped slightly by 0.09 percent on a week-on-week basis with a main drop observed in the prices of tomatoes, wheat flour, garlic, onions, potatoes, bananas, pulse and sugar.

The prices of chicken, eggs, clothes, rice, and others increased on a week-on-week basis, according to the PBS. Enditem
