KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police have smashed poppy farms totaling 60 acres in south Afghanistan's Kandahar province, provincial police spokesperson Mullah Asadullah Jamshid said on Saturday.

In a series of operations, 60 acres of poppy farms have been destroyed, the officer said, adding that police will not allow anyone to cultivate illegal crops.

Police have also taken into custody three people on the charge of involvement in this case, the officer noted.

The Afghan caretaker government has banned poppy cultivation and processing and drug trafficking in order to eliminate the menace of drugs to the nation. Enditem
