KABUL -- Afghanistan's central bank has announced it will put on auction 17 million U.S. dollars on Sunday in a bid to maintain the stability of the national currency the afghani.

"The bidders including moneychangers and private banks should deposit the necessary money in cash in the afghani in the central bank -- Da Afghanistan Bank," Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter. (Afghanistan-Central Bank-Currency)

ISLAMABAD -- The weekly inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) in Pakistan witnessed an increase of 29.41 percent on a year-on-year basis, an official report said on Friday.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said that the SPI was calculated to measure the price movement of important commodities and it comprised 51 essential items collected from 50 markets in 17 cities across the country. (Pakistan-Economy-Inflation)

TOKYO -- Japan has included a record high defense spending in its budget enacted for the fiscal year 2024 starting April, in another move that runs counter to its pacifist constitutional stance.

The defense budget reached a historical high of 7.95 trillion yen (about 52.53 billion U.S. dollars), according to the national budget approved by the Japanese parliament on Thursday for fiscal 2024, which totaled 112.57 trillion yen. (Japan-Defense Budget)

ATHENS -- Greece is to raise its minimum monthly wage from 780 euros (842 U.S. dollars) to 830 euros (895 dollars) as of April 1, the fourth such increase over the past five years.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who made the announcement at a cabinet meeting Friday, said the minimum wage has increased by 27.7 percent from 586 euros since 2019. (Greece-Salary) Enditem
