JAKARTA -- The authorities of Indonesia's Batam Island officially started on Sunday the operation of direct shipment from Batuampar Port to China's Guangzhou and Shenzhen to boost trade between the two countries.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia has logged a sharp increase in both the number of people arrested and the amount of narcotics seized in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, according to an Anti-Drug Police Department (ADP)'s report released Sunday.

The authorities had nabbed 5,489 drug-related suspects during the January-March period this year, up 22 percent from 4,485 over the same period last year, the report said, adding that more than 100 suspects were foreigners in nine nationalities. (Cambodia-Narcotics)

COLOMBO -- The Sri Lankan government will extend support for the production of Sri Lanka's first film based on artificial intelligence (AI), the President's Media Division (PMD) said on Sunday, quoting President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Addressing a film awards ceremony in Colombo on Saturday, Wickremesinghe said AI technology has been integrated into the global film industry since last year, and Sri Lanka must be prepared to use this technology. (Sri Lanka-AI Film)

MANILA -- Two people were killed and 22 others injured after a jeepney crashed into a roadside tree in Batangas province, south of Manila, police said Sunday.
