UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations and its partners continue to work against the odds to provide daily emergency assistance to people impacted by violence in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, said a UN spokesman on Monday.
On Saturday alone, the World Food Programme (WFP) was able to provide more than 28,000 meals to people who have been forced to flee their homes due to the violence, said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. (UN-Haiti-Aid)

DAMASCUS/TEHRAN -- At least five people, including a senior Iranian commander, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on the building of the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday, according to the Iranian ambassador to Syria and other sources.
The Syrian Defense Ministry said the missile attack occurred at about 5:00 p.m. local time (1400 GMT) when Israel launched an aerial aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, targeting the building of the Iranian Consulate in Damascus. MOSCOW -- Four suspects detained Sunday in Russia's Dagestan Republic on terrorism charges were directly involved in the attack on the Crocus City Hall concert, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said Monday.
The suspects provided money and weapons to the concert hall attackers, the FSB said in a statement, adding that they were also allegedly plotting a terrorist attack in a park in the city of Kaspiysk. (Russia-Terror Attack-Suspects)

VLADIVOSTOK -- The rescue operation at the Pioneer gold mine in Russia's Far East region of Amur has officially been halted, as the 13 miners trapped in ruins were declared dead, local media reported on Monday.
