NEW DELHI, April 2 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and three others injured in a road accident in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, confirmed a local police to Xinhua over the phone.

The mishap occurred in the Chitrakoot district of the state. A truck driving at a high speed from the opposite direction hit a vehicle, resulting in eight passengers trapped inside it.

While three people died instantly, two died on the way to the hospital. The rest three were admitted to the hospital. Enditem
