CHICAGO, April 2 (Xinhua) -- General Motors Co. (GM) reported on Tuesday that it delivered 594,233 vehicles in the United States in the first quarter of 2024, down 1.5 percent year over year.

GM attributed the sales decline to the drop in fleet deliveries, which slipped 23 percent as a result of temporary production constraints on midsize pickups and vans.

GM sold 197,000 internal combustion engine pickups in the first quarter, the best first quarter sales since 2020; and 16,425 electric vehicles, down from 20,000 in the first quarter of 2023.

With demand for EVs slowing, GM halted production of the Bolt in December. Nevertheless, Bolt still led GM's EV sales with 7,040 delivered, down 64 percent from last year.

All of GM's brands reported declines in sales year over year in the first quarter except for Buick, which saw a 16-percent uptick. Sales of Chevy and Cadillac declined 2 percent; and that of GMC dropped 5 percent.

For other automakers, Kia Corp.'s U.S. sales dropped 2 percent year on year in the first quarter; Hyundai Motor Co. sold 184,804 vehicles, up 0.2 percent; Toyota Motor Corp. delivered 565,098 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, up 20 percent; Honda Motor Co.'s sales increased 17 percent; Subaru Corp.'s sales went up 6.7 percent; and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.'s first-quarter U.S. sales rose by 7.2 percent to 252,735, the Detroit News reported on Tuesday. Enditem
