YANGON, April 4 (Xinhua) -- As the upcoming Thingyan festival holidays in Myanmar approach, there is a surge in demand for overseas trips, U Naung Naung Han, president of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association told Xinhua on Thursday.

This year's overseas trips during the Thingyan festival holidays have witnessed a significant increase of approximately 50 percent compared to the previous year, he said.

Many people are opting for relaxation trips to destinations such as Thailand, India, and Vietnam, he added.

Domestic and international trips have gained popularity during the Thingyan period, surpassing the numbers observed in previous months.

However, local travel within Myanmar has experienced a decline during this year's Thingyan holidays compared to the previous year.

Despite the decrease in domestic travel, there has been a surge in hotel bookings at popular beach destinations such as Chaungtha and Ngwesaung. Enditem
