LUSAKA, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese telecom giant Huawei on Thursday commenced a mini mobile congress to showcase its technological solutions and services to its customers.

The two-day event, held under the theme "Accelerating ICT Industry in Zambia" was a continuation of the just-ended Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain last month which brought together officials from the government, mobile phone service providers and information technology providers.

"In this congress, we want to collectively explore opportunities that will enhance Zambia's global competitiveness in the digital era. We want to demonstrate how Zambia can share in the benefits of providing quality education through smart campus networks," said Samuel Chen, CEO of Carrier Business of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa.

He further said the company wanted to use the congress to demonstrate how Zambia could boost the development of the small and medium businesses through fintech solutions and showcase innovative data solutions as well as demonstrate that sustainable development was possible through the provision of green energy solutions.

According to him, Huawei wanted to build collaborations with the Zambian government to achieve milestones in energy projects, adding that a memorandum of understanding signed last year has seen the government supporting the company implement a mini solar grid project to serve a hospital, a school and teachers' community in a rural part of the southern part of the country.

He said that the company, in collaboration with the government and mobile service providers, has been able to ensure connectivity to both urban and rural areas through nationwide telecommunication tower projects.

Brilliant Habeenzu, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology, commended Huawei for spearheading the digital transformation in Zambia.

He said the development of ICT talent development and other developments by the company was an indication that the digital space in Zambia was undergoing massive transformation.

Louis Mwape, Huawei's public relations manager in Zambia, said in an interview on the sidelines of the congress that Huawei has much more to offer Zambian customers, including not only technological products but also green energy projects such as solar energy provision.

He said the company was looking for more collaboration with both the government and the private sector. Enditem
