KAMPALA, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has named the final squad for the T20 Women's World Cup Global qualifiers slated for April 19 to May 2 in Abu Dhabi, the UAE.

Head coach Lawrence Ssematimba said Thursday that he also selected Janet Mbabazi as the captain and Rita Musamali as the vice captain.

The Victoria Pearls will be chasing a World Cup slot at the qualifiers in which they are in Group A alongside Sri Lanka, the United States, Thailand and Scotland. Hosts UAE, Ireland, the Netherlands, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe are in Group B.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the top two sides from each group will enter the semifinals, and the two finalists will qualify for the T20 Women's World Cup to take place in Bangladesh later this year.

The coach told Xinhua that the training camp in India and playing at the African Games in Ghana have helped the team shape up well. "The team has had a lot of game practice and we have a few days to polish a few things and travel ready to perform well in the Global qualifiers."

"I am glad that the coach and other members have had faith in me and appointed me team captain. I will work hard together with other players to get positive results," said Mbabazi who had been the vice captain since 2017.
