JERUSALEM, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Israeli police on Friday dispersed Palestinian worshippers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem by deploying teargas released from a drone.

The incident occurred as thousands of worshippers had assembled at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, for dawn prayers on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The police said in a statement that eight people were arrested for "chanting inciting slogans and support of terrorism."

The Israeli Ha'aretz daily reported that in a rare move, the police sprayed worshipers with teargas from a drone. Gas canisters were also shot at the worshippers, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA. Enditem
