MOSCOW -- Governor of Russia's Murmansk region Andrei Chibis is in a serious condition and is being operated on in the intensive care unit, said Yuri Shiryaev, chief doctor of the Apatity-Kirov Hospital, on Friday.

The 45-year-old Chibis was stabbed in the stomach after a meeting in the town of Apatity Thursday evening. The attacker, identified as Alexander Bydanov, was detained by security guards on the spot. (Russia-Stabbing Attack)

JERUSALEM -- Israel announced the reopening of key routes to allow humanitarian aid to enter the famine-stricken Gaza Strip.

LA PAZ -- A total of 14 people were killed when a minibus and a tractor-trailer collided head-on Thursday on a highway that links the Bolivian departments of Oruro and Potosi, local authorities said.

"The driver of the tractor-trailer, which was transporting salt from Potosi, presumably fell asleep due to fatigue, losing control of the vehicle," Julio Larrea, Oruro's director of transportation and road safety, told local media. (Bolivia-Road Accident)

CONAKRY -- Four were killed and several seriously injured on Thursday in a traffic accident on the Coyah-Kindia national road, northeast of Guinea's capital Conakry, local media reported.
