NEW YORK, April 5 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 jolted New Jersey and New York on Friday morning, triggering precautionary measures from authorities in multiple states.
The quake had a depth of 4.7 km with epicenter in Tewksbury of northern New Jersey, which is around 50 km west of Manhattan, according to the United States Geological Survey.
New Jersey activated its State Emergency Operations Center, said New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.
Holland Tunnel linking New York City and Jersey City was briefly closed for inspection and has been reopened.
It's reported that John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport were put on a ground stop as runways were inspected for damage.
"We have no reports of damages to infrastructure at this time, but are continuing to monitor throughout the city. New Yorkers are advised to return to activities as normal," said New York City Emergency Management on social media.
