MOSCOW -- A dam breach in the Russian city of Orsk in the Orenburg Region has led to a mass evacuation of residents from the flooded area, local media reported Friday.

The breach occurred in the dam that serves as a protective barrier against the Ural River, endangering several parts of the old city and nearby Orsk villages, RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing local authorities. (Russia-Dam-Evacuation)

HARARE -- Zimbabwe on Friday introduced to the market the much-awaited structured currency that monetary authorities expect to foster currency stability and contain rising inflation.

BEIRUT -- Six militants were killed, and 11 others injured on Friday in Israeli air strikes on several villages and towns in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, said that two Hezbollah fighters were killed and a civilian was wounded in an airstrike on the village of Aita al-Shaab in the central sector of southern Lebanon, while another Hezbollah fighter was killed and two civilians wounded in a raid on the southwest town of Qana. UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Friday the appointment of former Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop as his special envoy on Myanmar.

Bishop, who served as Australian foreign minister between 2013 and 2018 and is currently chancellor of the Australian National University, replaces Noeleen Heyzer of Singapore. (UN-Myanmar-Envoy) Enditem
