RAMALLAH, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Two Israelis, including a young woman, were injured on Sunday in a Palestinian shooting attack near the city of Qalqilya in the northern West Bank.

Israeli media outlets said that a 19-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man were seriously and moderately injured in a shooting.

According to the reports, ambulance crews had transported the injured to the hospital.

The Israeli military told media that the attacker was standing on the side of the road and opened fire on a private car and a bus.

The young woman who was seriously injured was inside the bus, and the other injured person was hit by a bullet in a private car, said the military, noting that the army forces have identified the attacker and are pursuing him.

Following the attack, Israeli army forces closed the main eastern entrance to the city of Qalqilya and impeded vehicle traffic, causing a stifling traffic crisis, according to Palestinian security sources.

The West Bank has witnessed escalating tensions in various cities, villages, and camps since the start of the conflict in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023.

Since then, Israel has killed more than 450 Palestinians by bombing and bullets throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Enditem
