MEXICO CITY, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Toluca moved to the top of Mexico's Liga MX standings by cruising to a 4-1 home victory over Atlas on Sunday.

Federico Pereira and Alexis Vega scored first-half goals before Jesus Angulo made it 3-0 just after the hour.

Jose Lozano reduced the deficit three minutes from time but Edgar Lopez completed the rout by slotting home his team's fourth goal after combining with Pereira on the counterattack.

The result leaves Toluca with 29 points from 14 games, ahead of second-placed America on goal difference. Atlas are 16th in the 18-team standings, 19 points further back.

Renato Paiva's men will now turn their attention to defending champions America, whom they will face next Saturday at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

"They are the current champions so we respect them," the Portuguese manager told reporters.

"We know what they're capable of but at the same time we'll go into the game without any fear. We are here to fight for the title but there's a long way to go," Paiva added. Enditem
