NAIROBI, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan government said Monday that its security agencies are on high alert to counter terror threats across the country.
Raymond Omollo, the principal secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, said that despite a few incidents reported at the Kenya-Somalia border, the country is generally safe.
His comments followed travel advisories issued by the United Kingdom and Australia over the weekend, warning of increased terrorism targeting foreigners in Kenya. In response, the Kenyan police assured that there is no cause for alarm, as they have taken measures to address the threats.
"Our security teams are on the ground and actively engaged to ensure safety for all. Let everyone know the government is in charge, and we are okay for now," Omollo said during the opening of a meeting on threats to the petroleum industry in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.
The Kenyan official said that they have no information suggesting any serious threat and called on the public to continue cooperating with security agencies to maintain stability.
Last week, a terror attack in Mandera County in the northeast part of the country along the Kenya-Somali border resulted in the deaths of four people, including two police officers. Enditem
