8 injured after car crashes into crowd in Czech town

PRAGUE, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were injured on Tuesday after a car hit several pedestrians in front of a supermarket in Police nad Metuji, a town in northern Czech Republic.

The incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Penny supermarket in the town, police said on social media X, adding that the driver and three children were among the injured.

The Czech News Agency reported that the car crashed into a queue of people waiting to buy ice cream, and one injured child was transported to hospital by helicopter. The driver, an elderly local citizen, claimed to have health problems.

Police said alcohol was ruled out in the driver's breath test.
