BAGHDAD, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Iraq and the United States held talks on ending the presence of U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq, the Iraqi military said on Tuesday.

Iraqi military spokesman Yahya Rasoul said in a statement that the joint Higher Military Commission (HMC) held a meeting on Monday, and the two sides discussed the work of the subcommittees accomplished during the past months.

The meeting also evaluated the threat of the Islamic State (IS) group, the security situation, and the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces, it added.

In January, the two sides formed the HMC to work out a plan to withdraw the foreign troops who have been in Iraq since 2014 to help fight the Islamic State (IS) militants, according to the Iraqi authorities. Enditem
