ROME -- An explosion at an Italian power station on Tuesday killed at least three people and left 4 others missing. Another four people were hospitalized with serious burns.

The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. local time at a hydroelectric power station on Lake Suviana in the Apennine Mountains, some 70 km south of Bologna. All those involved were working at the plant when the explosion took place. (Italy-Explosion-Casualties)

JERUSALEM -- Israel's military stated on Tuesday that it had targeted a Syrian army infrastructure utilized by the Lebanon-based Hezbollah militant group.

JUBA -- South Sudan announced Tuesday that it will begin preparations for parliamentary elections scheduled for December, the East African country's first since independence.

Following the cessation of a civil war in 2018 and the attainment of independence in 2011, South Sudan was initially scheduled to hold elections before February 2023. However, the transitional government and the opposition agreed to postpone them until late 2024. (South Sudan-General elections)

TEHRAN -- At least five policemen were killed and two others injured Tuesday in a "terrorist" attack in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

The incident occurred on a road between Mehrestan County and Sib and Suran County when gunmen attacked two police cars that were carrying a main suspect behind the assassination of an Iranian policeman in March, the report said. (Iran-Terror attack-Policemen deaths) Enditem
