VIENTIANE, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone urged relevant sectors to speed up the modernization of transport and logistics systems in the Southeast Asian country, and to maximize the potential provided by the rail network to drive growth.

Speaking at a meeting on the country's public works and transport on Tuesday, Sonexay said transport and logistics are important drivers of the economy and significant generators of revenue, the Lao National TV reported on Thursday.

Sonexay urged the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport to maintain a durable condition of the public roads to facilitate travels.

He added that the China-Laos Railway is an important factor in Laos' economic growth, calling for the development of an aligned multimodal transport system integrated with it to further enlarge its role. Enditem
