SYDNEY, April 12 (Xinhua) -- The Australian Grand Prix will stage the opening round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, with the Melbourne event the first of 24 Grands Prix next year.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation confirmed the schedule in a statement released on Friday evening shortly after the FIA and Formula 1 unveiled the 2025 season calendar, which will mark the championship's 75th anniversary.

With Ramadan to be observed throughout March 2025, both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grands Prix are to be staged in April.

Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit will thus see the debut of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton with Ferrari.

The contracts of several other drivers, including 2024 Australian Grand Prix winner Carlos Sainz, still remain up in the air. This could lead to a drastically different grid when the 2025 season begins.

Data from the Australian Grand Prix Corporation suggested that there was a record-breaking estimated attendance of 452,055 at Albert Park in 2024, surpassing the previous attendance records set in both 2022 and 2023. Enditem
