BUENOS AIRES, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Marcelo Correa struck with a second-half header as Estudiantes edged closer to securing a berth in Argentina's Primera Division quarterfinals on Friday with a 1-0 home win over Boca Juniors.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Correa latched onto Pablo Piatti's corner with a glancing header that slipped through the gloves of goalkeeper Matias Mansilla.

Boca were forced to play the last 15 minutes with just 10 men after Lautaro Blanco was shown a second yellow card for a bad challenge on Piatti.

The result leaves Estudiantes second in the 14-team Group B standings with 24 points from 13 games, two points ahead of fifth-placed Boca.

"Control of possession was fairly evenly divided and both teams struggled to find openings in the first half," Estudiantes manager Eduardo Dominguez told reporters.

"We knew we had to be patient and I think that in the second half we showed that we were the better team."

Boca need to beat Godoy Cruz at home next Tuesday - on the last matchday of the regular season - to have any chance of advancing to the quarterfinals.

Estudiantes will be guaranteed of a berth in the last eight if they beat Lanus away the same day. Enditem
