DAR ES SALAAM, April 13 (Xinhua) -- At least seven pupils were killed and four others injured on Friday morning when their school bus plunged into a flooded gorge in Tanzania's northern Arusha region, local police said Saturday.

Awadhi Haji, a police commissioner for operations and training, told Xinhua via phone that the school bus ferrying the pupils to school plunged into the flooded gorge at 6 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) Friday.

Haji said four pupils, a teacher and the driver were rescued and rushed to the hospital where their conditions were improving.

Heavy rains have been hitting the Arusha region for the past week, causing catastrophic emergencies to businesses and infrastructure. Enditem
