RIO DE JANEIRO, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Botafogo's veteran right-back Rafael da Silva faces up to two months on the sidelines after sustaining a new knee injury, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Saturday.

The 33-year-old former Manchester United player, who posted a photo on social media with his left leg in a brace, is not expected to resume training until June.

"Rafael underwent imaging tests on his left knee, which confirmed a stress fracture of the patella," read a statement on Botafogo's official website.

"He has already started treatment and he is expected return in eight weeks," it added.

The injury came less than a month after Rafael returned from a knee reconstruction that had sidelined him since July last year.

Rafael has made just 39 first-team appearances for Botafogo since joining the club from Istanbul Basaksehir in 2021. Enditem
