GAZA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said on Sunday that Iran's attack against Israel overnight was "a natural right" to defend the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria.

"The military operation carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Israel is a natural right and a deserved response to the crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus and assassinating a number of Revolutionary Guard leaders there," the movement said in a press statement.

Meanwhile, Hamas called on the Arab and Islamic nations and people of the world to continue to support the right of the Palestinian people to pursue freedom and independence and to establish the Palestinian state.

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) confirmed Saturday night that it launched dozens of missiles and drones against Israel.

Israel has been on heightened alert over the past few days following Iranian threats to retaliate against the Israeli airstrike on its consular building in the Syrian capital Damascus on April 1, which killed seven Iranian officials, including two veteran commanders. Enditem
